About the project

NEET-SYSTEM project is focused on the so-called NEET group, i.e., people who are not in education, employment, or training. In this project, the term NEET pertains in particular to young people with previous negative education experiences, those who have left schooling early, and those who have not completed formal education.

In 2016, the ratio of young people aged 20 to 34 who are not in education, employment, or training was 12.4% in Germany, 21.3% in Cyprus, 14.8% in Great Britain, 18.5% in Ireland, 18.0% in Poland, 15.0% in Finland, 16.2% in Czechia, and 22.5% in Croatia. Due to a record number of people in this category in the wake of the financial and economic crisis, policy creators feared that an entire generation of young people in the EU might remain absent from the labour market for years. Research has shown that young people are relatively good at dealing with short-term unemployment. However, long-term absence will probably negatively impact their future participation on the labour market, as well as their earnings during the life cycle, which may result in social exclusion.

The primary goal of the NEET-SYSTEM project is to create and develop an education framework based on challenges faced by the NEET group, and provide support in building skills and competencies for reintegration in education or employment. Partners will focus on building trust that may have been undermined by previous negative experiences, regaining motivation for self-development, and the development of key market-oriented competencies through Escape Room challenges. Through this project, professionals in adult education will be offered a comprehensive training programme that will aid them in the use of project resources and development of key skills for the creation of new content aimed at overcoming future challenges.
