About the project

MAFLE project deals with teaching foreign languages to migrants. By participating in the project, partner institutions will share experiences, materials and methods they use to teach foreign languages to migrants at the A1 and A2 levels. Less focus is placed on teaching English, as there is a need for other European languages, Finnish, Latvian, Estonian and, more widespread, Spanish and German. Attention is given to teaching differences resulting from geographical and socio-economic circumstances. The project will include teaching of methods of including a foreign language in everyday activities, professionalisation of language teachers, and development of books and dictionaries adapted to users at A1 and A2 levels.

The need for understanding language and culture correlates with the possibilities of changing one’s job and travelling to different countries. The political situation is becoming more unstable, so a greater number of people are arriving to Europe. In order to avoid unsuccessful integration due to poor language skills, the project is developing more attractive and faster ways of language learning. Thus far, each European country has developed its own materials and gained experience in teaching asylum and job seekers. Project partners are collecting and exchanging experiences with the aim of creating unique materials adapted to the needs of the target group.
